I am still here in the hospital with complications from my surgery. I am 3 weeks post maze and have been here 1 week with accelerated heartbeat and fluid in the cavity around my right lung and fluid IN my right lung. They have solved the problem of the fluid in the cavity and the pulmonologist is trying lasik to solve the fluid in my right lung. Unfortunately, the real bug-a-boo is my heart rate. They can't get it below 130 BPR and are just not comfortable sending me home with it that high. This morning they tried chemical conversion with adenezine (wasn't that a lot of fun!) but it didn't work. So they are going to try cardioversion this afternoon. How many post-mazers had to go through all this? Don't get me wrong, I KNOW this doesn't mean the Maze didn't work--it's too soon--it's just one of the things that can happen to anyone with open heart surgery.
