One concerned Mazer and Dr Razavi

When I came to the CC a couple of weeks ago and spoke with Dr. McCarthy, Dr. McCarthy told us (my Wife and I) that the success rate for the Maze was 98% and that the other 2% had a foci that was located on top of one of the suture scare lines and that this group could then be corrected with RF ablation. Now that sounds like pretty good odds. I meet with Dr Hammer and he said about the same thing and stated that this was a "great" operation. He told me that he had to take a trip and a Dr. Razavi would cover for him. During my 5-night stay I saw Dr. Razavi several times and Dr McCarthy I think twice. On about the second day after the Maze when I saw Dr. Razavi he said something strange. He said, "we really don't know about the outcome of this operation yet". I wasn't sure what he meant by that. I was still pretty beat up. Dr. Razavi discharged me in NSR after the fifth night. Two days later I am back in the hospital because I started back with a fast afib. Dr. Razavi prescribed 150 mg of Rythmol 3 times a day. The next morning (a Saturday) Dr. McCarthy was doing his rounds and came in to see me. He decided to change my Rythmol from 150 to 225mg because as he said, "I was a big guy". A couple of hours later while Dr. Razavi was discharging me he wrote Rythmol 150 mg. I pointed out that Dr. McCarthy had changed it to 225mg. Razavi then said, "well, I'm changing it back to 150mg.". Is this strange or what? During my discharge Dr Razavi than started telling me some things that got me really upset. He said that this operation is not 98% effective based on his experience. I informed him that Dr. McCarthy had giving me the 98% number and was Dr. McCarthy wrong? He again said the same thing. He said the numbers are not that high based on his experience. He went on to say, "this operation could very likely not be successful for me." He said that I went into this operation with overly optimistic expectations. He kept telling me that I could very well spend the rest of my life taking drugs to control my afib. Yes, I lift that hospital a little upset. I'm a mazer because I did not want to take heart drugs the rest of my life.

I really would appreciate some feedback on this whole thing!!!
