When I was doing my research to select a facility and surgeon for my mitral valve repair and MAZE.I picked up quite a few opinions that internally the CC was very political and ego driven. I also saw evidence, on this board and other locations, that it was not unusual for the EP's, ablation proponents, and cardiac surgeons to take verbal PR shots at each other. However, all my sources said that McCarthy was an excellent surgeon. I selected the facility and surgeon that I used because I wanted to have more input and be consulted on which procedure (full open or minimal) would be used and I wanted no part of any variation from the classic MAZE III which has the most history behind it. Also the success rate for the facility and surgeon I selected was on a par with the CC as well as it being close to home. The competition for grants and funding at a facility like the CC is so great that the political and ego factor will always be there.
