My husband Paul had a significant afib attack last night - almost 4 years exactly from the date of his maze surgery at CCF (June 29, 2000). This was the first sign of Afib that he has had in 3 and a half years. Needless to say, we were shocked when it happened and didn't quite know what to do. After waiting a few hours, it did not subside and so we went to the ER. To make a long story short, they were able to stop the attack with several shots of Adenocard. (I am not familiar with this medicine.) However, his heart rate continues to be high (110 to 120) and they refused to let him leave the ER. He is now admitted into the hospital and on a Cardizem drip (I have no idea why.) Unfortunately, his EP has left the practice and a cardiologist is on call. I left for a few hours today - only to return and find that they had given him Cordarone. I absolutely hit the roof! He will not be taking anymore. But the heart rate problem persists. Is there anyone out there that has had a heart rate problem - years after their Maze ?? I have tried to do some research but do not have time to continue. If there is anyone out there, I'd appreciate it if you'd write or respond to this posting. Thanks very much, Shearin Johnson
(PS Paul has not been on any medication since around 9 months after his maze.)
