Shearin: Are you sure that Paul is experiencing afib and not aflutter? Two or three months post-maze, I had some rapid HR, and my EP in Tampa told me to go to an Emergency Clinic (in St. Petersburg) and have an EKG done and faxed to him. The Emerg. Clinic doctor was convinced that I was in afib, and subsequently spoke with my EP after faxing it to him. My EP told him that the tracing was "classic atrial flutter" and I subsequently went to Tampa for a cardioconversion. It held for another 15-16 months, and I had another episode, for which I was again cardioverted. (A point of interest: when I told the Emerg. Clinic doctor that my Electrophysiologist wanted the tracing faxed to him, his response was: "Why would he want it? Why don't you want me to send it to a cardiologist?"-He had no idea that EPs ARE cardiologists! (which my EP later laughed about). This Emerg.Clinic doctor graduated from Henneman (sp?), in Philadelphia, and should have known what EPs are.
If I remember correctly, you were in Florida, when you sent me encouragement to "go for it" back in late 2000. If you can't find Paul's former EP, perhaps the CC can give you the names of some in your area who have referred folks to the CC, and are familiar with post-maze incidents. If you can't, write to me offline, and I can refer you to someone in Tampa.
