My twin sister and I had the Maze Procedure at the Cleveland Clinic, and I am happy to report that we have been free of a-fib for several months. I have been completely off all medications for about 3 months. I also had a mitral valve repair at the same time as the Maze.
Several times since surgery, I have experienced severe pain in my chest and shoulders. I attributed this to muscle pain which I figured was easily irritated due to the surgery. Each time I experienced this, it quit within a few days.
For the past week, I have been in continuous pain, which I again thought was muscles. I finally visited my doctor and found out that not only was I in pain, I had a temp of 100.5, and after a chest x-ray found that I possibly have fluid in my lungs. Because I didn't visit the Dr. until late in the day, no further tests could be performed until Monday. So tomorrow, I am scheduled for an echo and a visit with my cardiologist.Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if the wires that were used on my sternum could be irritating me, but I don't know if that could cause my low-grade fever. Also I'm concerned about possible problems with my mitral valve. If anyone can help, I would certainly appreciate the information.
