Terry, I also had problems with the wires in my sternum, but it didn't cause any problems with fluid on the lungs, or fever. I just continued to be sore in the chest area, and had a small growth, that I figured was scar tissue in the upper portion of the chest scar. I didn't realize it until after the wires were removed, but it was causing me some stiffness, and restriction to movement in the neck and shoulder area. Once the wires were removed, all the problems disappeared.
For several months after surgery my back seemed to be easily strained and a little sore most of the time. This could be due to trying to exercise with weight machines before I should of, or trying to do to much.
For me, getting the wires removed from my sternum solved many problems for me, and some I didn't even realize I was having. The removal was to be done as a out patient surgery, but the surgeon had to do a little extra trimming of scar tissue, and he kept me overnight. It was very easy, and mostly pain free for me.
I hope the exams you take this week shows you what the problem is, and it will be easy to correct.
Please keep us informed.
