Ed has signed his name to my post!! Seriously, I could not agree more with everything Ed said.
I am now 6 months AF-free (one week behind Ed at the CC)and biked 22 miles this morning. My heart rate still doesn't get up to what it used to during such a ride some 12+ years ago when I THINK I had not yet started to have AF, but it did rock along at about 145-150 for the better part of the ride. It used to stay at 165-170 for almost all of this ride, which is just under an hour. I am now sitting here 5 hours later, still hot and sticky, but my HR is 70. It used to be in the low 50s or upper 40s. I know my heart will regain its' flexibility as I get back into shape. To be able to do this now is just such a joy!
I also waited (for some 5 years) for the new "improved" less invasive catheter cure which was "coming soon". It still isn't here, but NOW I don't have to "wait". AF is a thing of the past, as are ALL of the meds which slowly took the joy out of living until I could not stand it anymore.
While Ed is certainly the "poster boy" for the maze, there are many of us who have returned to normal, active lives and enthusiasticly encourage others not to be fearful of this procedure, as serious and scarey as it sounds.
