My maze surgery was in March 2003. I started out at 120 mg of diltiazem (generic for cardizem)daily. I was increased to 180 mg when my heart rate didn't come down. Now I am taking 180 mg in the morning and 180 mg in the evening and my resting heart rate is still at 120 bpm. The doc said it would take a few days to see the effects.
