Judy I am also from St Louis and had a partial PVA done at Barnes by Dr Lindsay and Dr Chen of Wash U. This procedure was done on Sept 26th, and was not completed do to respriatory failure. They completed the left atrium and pulled out.
I spent three days at cc in early November and failed my fourth cardioversion in three years. The Meds have not worked for me either. I am scheduled for a second PVA in early april with Dr Natale. I am also discussing the possibility of having the Maze procedure instead of the PVA, do to some moderate valve problems. I am awaiting Dr McCarthy's recommendation after FEDX my records to him early last week.
My St Louis cardiologist does not want me to have the maze procedure at this time. He believe if all else fails the maze should be considered. Washington University EP specialists admit to being highly conservative and have told me "let the Dr Natale's of this world pave the way!" Probably not an exact quote but a good paraphrase.
If you would like to compare notes call me at 314-849-2767.

Regards

Pat Haley
