Judy, I had a mitral valve repair scheduled at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Cosgrove. He consulted with other doctors and a Dr. Gillinov did my maze. I never even met him. Dr. Cosgrove couldn't repair my valve, so I have an artificial one. That was 8 months ago. I had my share of complications with the maze (pleural effusions or fluid around the lungs) that I wouldn't wish on anyone. But I consider my maze successful. I have a few skipped beats almost daily, but they don't bother me like the afib did. Just thought I should share my experience.
