I had a partial PVA in St Louis on Sept 26th of this year. They completed the left Atrium and pulled out "do to Respiratory problems" I ended up in IC for two days and then another four days in cardiac care. I am still in afib with a average bpm of 130. My system cannot tolerate all the medication (specifically calcium channel blockers) that have been thrown at me these past few months. I am 60 years old and was a very active person, since the PVA it has been strictly down hill. I have a mild Mitrol valve and moderate Aorta valve problem. The Doctors in St Louis do not want to repair or replace at this time. As a side bar, I left the hospital with a serious traumatic cough that no one has been able to identify the cause. I am going in for a PV CT scan next week and check for stenenis. I have been to CCF(Dr Natale) and the major challenge is the leadtime of five months for a second try on the PVA. I am feeling worse by the day, short of breathe and fatigued all the time, and now considering the maze procedure and valve repair or replacement instead of a second PVA.
My major concern is all the time it is taking to get to this point and the possible further damage that my heart is undertaking. I talked to Dr Patrick McCarthy office on Nov 17th at CCF and have yet been able to talk with anyone in detail about my situation.
I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed from this point. Thanks
Pat Haley
