My name is Mike Johnson, I had the maze done at CC on 1-12-01 with Carl, Ed and Scott. They are all doing well but mine has been one night mare after another. The procedure went well and I was in NSR for 24 hrs. After that it was all down hill. I started to have a high heart rate 5 days post op. It went to 164 and they gave me a shot of lowpressor which brought it down. They cardiovertied me on three different occasions, twice each time, once when I was not completely out. I screamed and they ask if I felt that. When I got home the high rates continued. I called Dr. McCarthy's office with little or no assistance. They told me that my care was up to my local Dr. Most local Dr's don't know anything about the Maze. I wanted to know if this was common post op sysptom. No answer. It has been 5 1/2 months and the high heart rates continue. I am in NSR most of the time and return to NSR after one of these events. I am wearing an event monitor for the first time in 5 1/2 months at my request not CC or my Dr. I have called Dr. Natalies office many times and spoke with Diana Bash who has been the most help of any one with the exception of Diane Beilfuss at OSU Dr Cox's Assistant. Dr. Cox even e-mailed me from Rome about my situation in May. Pretty good since Dr. McCarthy or his staff has not bothered to contact me about my condition.I I am a professional Fire Captain. I want to return to work but I can not in this condition. My goal from the start was no AF, no medication and no pacemaker. I had a v-Fib event on 9-27-99 most likely from Amiodrone to control the AF. They put the pacemaker defibrillator in at that time. My only heart problem is and has been A-fib. I have no other health problems except now depression. The high heart rate comes mostly when I am quite excersie has never brought it on. Has anyone experienced this from the maze. They say at Dr. Natalies office that this could be scare tissue related. I still betlieve that is is going to work. First I have to get the high rate stopped and let the pathway heal. With these contiuned break throughs it will never form the right scare tisse to stop this. Hello to Carl, Ed and Scott I need a little help thanks for your input. M9JOHN@AOL.COM
