I wanted to let everyone on this list know about something that happened to me yesterday. I was flying in the left seat as captain in a DC-9-15f. I had just returned from the LA area and was just about to land in Albuquerque. It was raining at the Albuquerque airport. We were level in weather at about 9000 feet just waiting for the next vector from approach control when we experienced a lightning strike on the nose of the aircraft just aft of the radom. The flash of light and explosion was as bright and as loud and one can imagine. For just that split second while my head was trying to get down between my shoulder blades I thought the nose of the airplane had exploded. Naturally after a second or two I realized that it was just a lightning strike and that everything was ok. The next thought I had was about my heart afib. and then I remembered that because of the Maze - afib is a thing of the past for me. Before the Maze I would probably have been in flutter or afib. I quickly checked my pulse and it was about 110 and normal! Wow. Thank you for this list and leading me to the maze at the CC.

(Note: After landing we found about 8 small exit holes on the left side of the nose left by the lightning strike.)

Tim
