I'm a 58 year old male that has a 30 history of paroxismal afib. Have been of flecanide for almost 9 years with good results (one or two episodes per year). As predicted, the meds are loosing their effectiveness, so I called the Cleveland Clinic (CCF) this last summer. They were very helpful and I have been scheduled for a PVI (pulmonary vein isolation, i.e. see Linden La Viano post dtd 10-22-02) on January 8, 2001. So I'm excited, big time! The challenge, and prayer request, is to get Regence insurance to kick in some bucks. We're in the appeal process right now and have been denied so far because they say it is "experimental" and "investigatory". CCF is in the process of writing a letter, so that should help. I've been reading this Maze page for several years and everyone's postings have helped clarify my decision process.
