I should preface this by telling you that pre-a-fib I was a competitive distance runner with a resting heart rate of approx 40 beats per minute. A-Fib put an end to my running career. I was fat and depressed.
It's been 5 months since the Maze procedure at OSU (Dr. Brown) and I feel great! In the first 2 months my resting heart rate was around 80-90 beats per minute always in normal sinus rythm. In April I ran the seven mile bridge run in Marathon, FL at an average of 8 minutes per mile. A big improvement from shuffling 1/4-1/2 mile in the first 12 weeks.
Today my I average 4-5 miles- 5 times a week. My resting heart rate is around 50-60 beats per minute. Although I am not at the level I once was, as time goes on, I feel like my old "pre-a-fib" self. I'm so glad to be drug-free. The Maze procedure was the right choice for me.
