Escaped from the LDS Hospital on Friday (4/12/02), 8 days after surgery (They're just an outstanding bunch of folks there at that hospital). Would have posted sooner, but my daughter's computer here in Salt Lake City has been "broke:". Got it functioning again today, so want to let you all know that I'm doing fine. Have had some minor "sinus tach" fast heart beats (not Afib), but my surgeon, Dr. Roger Millar, says not to worry as this is quite common postoperative even in non Afib heart surgery patients. He's given me some Rythmol to temporarily take care of this, which it has, because it's been non evident for the past 36 hours. Dr. Millar feels confident that my Afib is a thing of the past, and It's NSR from here on out. I repeat that I'm feeling good, eating well, little pain, and looking forward to the good old life I enjoyed prior to Afib.
Dr. Roger Millar is one of the really good guys. He has done about 200 Maze procedures, with one fatality, and about 97% total cure rate. The negative statistics pretty well involved people with some fairly serious heart problems in addition to their Afib.

Someone had asked me what type of Maze Dr. Millar performed on me. He did the full sternum (not mini) Maze III and the standard "cut and sew".

Again I want to thank Jack Drum, Carl Plaskett, John Behle, and everyone else whose posts I've read on this bosrd for the past year and a half. My Doctors in San Diego urged me not to do the Maze, and it was because of all you enthusiatic and supportive Mazers that I made the lonely decision to get my life back no matter what the medical community said. Thanks so very, very much and God bless each and everyone of you. Don Haynsworth
