Hi Group--This is my first post but I have been reading this page for the last year...and it will probably save my life. After a year of going in all the wrong directions (2 flutter ablations - failed) followed by a stroke (12 hours total right side paralysis)-- then 9 months of 7 days of flutter/fib then a few days at 36 beats/min...then back into fib....the Doctors wanting to do more ablations and put a defibrillator (jewel af) which gave no garantee that it would help the afib but they could give me all the medicine I needed to keep my heart out of afib - not the cure I was looking for....so from this page I found Daniel Beckman in Indianapolis and got an appointment with an EP that supports the maze (Dr, Crevey). My appointment with Dr. Crevey was last Tuesday at 4:00 - I went in and told him I wanted the Maze and who I wanted to do it. He supported my decision. The next day at work - my heart stopped - they called it a pause - two 7 second pauses. My heart was converting out of afib but the sinus node didn't pick up the beat. Went to the hospital and when converting - my heart did the same thing - but this time the control center got it on the monitor. It seems the tissue in the sinus node is deterioating ( sick sinus sydrome). Dr. Crevey decided he wanted the Maze done before he placed the pacemaker. He reversed my Coumadin..had a heart cathetoration (we need spell check on the board!)- my plumbing is fine. Dr. Beckman came to meet me in the hospital and I go tomorrow for another meeting. Dr. Crevey gave me Amiodarone and sent me home to be very quiet. The Maze is this Friday or Monday..I will find out tomorrow. I can't wait - who says.. "just live your life with afib" - This condition has completely crippled me and almost cost me my life....Thank you - every one of you - for giving me hope and showing me the path.
