Congratulations Bill. I read stories like yours and it gives me hope and courage to do it.

I went into Afib yesterday morning. I decided to go to my Dr. and get a current EKG of what was happening. I not only got one, but had an ecko done too. He put me on 100 mg of Flec 2 times a day. (I've refused to take anything to this point, except two tries with Flec 300 mgs when an episode happened two years ago. Taking it like that really made me feel like a zombie, so I didn't try it again.) I've tried all "natural" approuches, from Chinese herbs and accupuncture to energy work and limiting my diet to avoid the triggers, along with plenty of vitamins and minerals, meditation and visualization. It has made little difference. My episodes continue to increase in frequency and length. I am so sick and tired of living this way. The Doc yesterday tells me I ought get an ablation. I'm leaning towards the Maze, but was affraid to tell him, for fear that he would really give me a lecture. The idea of only 50 to 70 percent of a cure with an ablation doesn't impress me. If I'm going to take a risk, then I want better odds. From what I gather the Maze has a 95% cure rate. I like that. With the possibility of stenosis in an ablation and it might not fully work. I'm not convinced.

The idea of staying on medication for years, as I get worse, makes no sense to me. I'm young,(only 43) I'll have more strenghth and energy to recover from Maze surgery now, than if I wait.

I live in Utah and have the hope of Dr. Millar performing the surgery. I would never have learned all this if it weren't for this board. I'm so glad I found it. Your examples give me hope for a long life, Afib FREE!

Rob
