Several of us found that the anti-arrhythmic drugs contributed to higher/irregular heart rates post maze. I personally used a 1/4-1/3 of a 50mg atenolol tablet when my resting heart rate was in the 90s prior to exercise, and that made exercise much easier in the first year. I stopped having the occasional higher resting HR sometime in the first year, and discontinued all atenolol.
