Glenn: Has your doctor ruled out any other problems besides afib? Perhaps a leaking valve? As Tim said, I cannot picture afib alone at 140bpm taking you to "your knees" or worse. I had many, many episodes where I would never get below 140 for 36-48hrs or more. Whenever I got to 260bpm, I WAS looking for a place to sit/lie down, and climbing one flight of stairs would make me dizzy! I did urinate a LOT when in afib, but I managed to travel and go to the head often.
I flew from FL to the CC, and then back a week post surgery. I DID get a wheelchair at the airport, as I would not have made the long walk to the plane. I had to wait in Atlanta for a connecting flight/wheelchair again, but made it home in NSR with some PACs and assorted "blips", which lasted on and off for several months. They just disappeared after awhile.
The short Southwest flight to Houston sounds like the best deal for you if time/distance is a big concern. You might also try the Guided Imagery tape I mentioned in an earlier post to help you get more relaxed before and during your trip. It may help.
