.....and have a normal life. I had the MAZE 4/12/01, so I am at about 2.5 months. My echo-cardiogram today showed about 55% ejection fraction which is in the normal range. Before the MAZE it was about 40% with a low of 20% when in AFib - which was about 50% of the time.

Heart rate is still regular and strong and my heart is getting stronger. I'm a little skeptical - 30 years of Afib brings that out - so I have been a little reserved. Today in meeting with the Doctor he mentioned his first MAZE patient that is just out there doing life big time. That before the MAZE he would pass out a lot. Tears started building as I realized that is over. No more controlled falls to the floor. No more laying in the middle of the kitchen or a hallway because I almost blacked out. I walked through the hospital pushing back tears.

I have no future appointments with any doctors.

He says he might call me in about 6 months for an EKG for another study he is doing. I am one of 4 fairly young patients he has had who have had severely degenerated health as a result of Afib alone.

I used to have sweats - but they were MAJOR. Interesting that they haven't happened for a year or two, but they could be bad when they happened.

My blood pressure was way down too. My rate is still a little faster than it was before the MAZE, but it was low then. It has come way down since shortly after the surgery.

I'll always remember the day I found out about the MAZE. My wife found me in front of the computer in tears over the thought that I could be free of the Afib. Now it is tears of gratitude. For me, it was a lifesaver.
