Larry, it is a good thing that you are getting a second opinion from a new cardiologist. As it is well documented by me and several others on this board, that AF is a curable ailment, and has been for since 1987. No joking, but there are a lot of cardiologist that are not up on what all is going on in the field of atrial fibrillation.
If your first trip to the doctor with AF, he cardioverted you without getting your blood thinned with coumadin and test run to see if you had clots in your heart prior to cardiovertion, you had a big chance of having a stroke. The blood pools in the atria while in AF, and clots can form. When you are converted to NSR the clots can be flushed out into your system.
My advise is to read all you can and learn what all your options are. Being informed about your condition, and what options would be best for you, is your best chance for a cure, with the least amount of problems.
Learn all you can before your appointment with the new cardiologist, and bring all your questions up to him. Please keep us advised on what you find out.
You should get several good ideas from the members here.
Best wishes and prayers for the help you need.
