I have been reading as many posts as possible in preparation of my possible Maze in April. I have some questions for those of you that are fluent in the ins and outs of the Maze and a-fib.
1. What exactly is post maze atrial kick? How common
is it?
2. What is atrial flutter? How common is it post Maze?
3. I know that CC has about a 97% success rate of achieving NSR post Maze. Of the 97%, how many patients have post-op problems with fluid build up around the lungs, around the heart etc. Of the 97% what percent need to be on anti-arrhythmic meds post Maze?
4. I spoke with a very well regarded EP cardiologist that mentioned that he recently examined a patient who had a Maze ten years ago. He was in NSR but the posterior portion of his atrium was still in a-fib. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is that atrial kick?5. What is meant by being in junctional rhythm? Is there a stroke risk when in this state? Do you need to keep taking coumadin? How many post Mazers have this fate?
Thank you for answering this. 59 days, nervous, and counting-Jim Matthews
