George: I'm glad to hear that you are one of the 70% or so who have been in NSR since your maze. I'm also glad to see a new surgeon's name for afibbers in the NE to consider.

I'm not sure I understand your question re: alcohol. Pre-maze, most of us (those who consumed alcohol) would probably say that it, caffeine, stress, etc. were "triggers" for afib. Since MY maze, I can honestly say, as I sit with a glass of wine, typing; I have not had any alcohol induced rhythm problems. I DID have 2 bouts of aflutter at about 2.5 months and at 19 months, which I could not attribute to anything but an aberration. I DID find that for about a year post maze, if I consumed much wine, my HR would go up to perhaps 90 from 70-75, but then go back down after a few hours. That has not happened for a year or more (which could have something to do with losing 40+lbs), and I have resumed my quest for nice wines. I try not to overdo it, since wine does have calories.

You were fortunate to not have symptoms, but perhaps having an imperfect valve was enough of a problem and you didn't notice them. Continued good fortune to you!
