Thanks to all of you for your very informative comments and histories. I am currently being seen by a cardiologist/electrophysiologist associated with Texas Heart Institute & Baylor College of Medicine, Ali Massumi, M.D. He has recommended the Maze procedure as a last resort. I am most hesitant to have the more invasive open heart form of the procedure as I have other serious lung complications. I had hope to go to Georgetown and have the less invasive procedure done by Dr. Cox. Obviously, this plan is out. I have three questions:
1)Do you know of anyone who is well trained and experienced in doing the small chest incision and where this person might be located?(Anyone associated with the Texas Heart Institute?-I live in Houston.)
2)Knowing what you do about Dr. Cox, do you think there is any possibility of his coming to Houston to demonstrate/teach this newer/newest procedure to faculty at the Texas Heart Institute? I am willing and would be delighted to be his subject.
3)Finally, do any of you know anything about the Medtronic Cardioblate TM Surgical Ablation System being used at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta?

I hope I have utilized this web site and opportunity for comments according to its' intended use. If not, please excuse and just chalk it up to a lady who is quite apprehensive about the necessity for this procedure. Thanks.

Beverly Crane
