Hi -
I know Massumi. In 1989, I had not yet heard of Dr. Cox, while researching surgical solutions for my WPW, but I had heard of Denton Cooley, and came to Houston to consult with him. Massumi did my EP study, and said I had a left freewall accessory pathway. I'd done enough research on heart arrhythmias to know that Cooley's technique, while he was a brilliant surgeon in the "plumbing" area, was behind the times in terms of arrythmias. Massumi, on the sly, advised me to go to Cox. When I got to St. Louis, where Dr. Cox was at the time, I was informed that the Houston workup was "incomplete." Dr. Cox was way ahead of Houston, and produced a total surgical cure in 1990. My point here is that the average population differentiates little between doctors, since they aren't doctors themselves, and yet in the high line specialties, there can be light years of difference. It's a tragedy that knee problems prevent Dr. Cox from performing surgery any longer, but if he were, he'd be the only person to consult. However, since he is not operating any longer, I would only consult one of his direct proteges, a man who had also previously enjoyed a top of the line reputation.
