I'd like to second Ed's response that your post-maze afib is not anything to get too distressed about. I also resumed vigorous activity after getting home from surgery (5/23/02), yet I had occasional afibs (in the beginning two or three times a week) while taking Rythmol (propafenone) at the same dosage that you're taking. The Rythmol didn't appear to prevent the afibs, but it allowed me to exercise my way back into NSR. The afibs got to be less frequent and shorter duration, and finally, exactly 3 months to the day after my surgery, they disappeared entirely. I agree that it's frustrating and discouraging to get afibs after maze surgery, but just hang in there, keep up your rehab, and know that there's a wonderful world of NSR for you just a few weeks in the future.
