I received an email from someone that is facing severe depression after having the MAZE. I don't recall experiencing a bout of depression, but have read of others facing it. A quick internet search revealed some information and the following book.
"Coping with Heart Surgery and Bypassing Depression: A Family's Guide to the Medical, Emotional, and Practical Issues" by June B. Pimm, Carol Cohan, James R. Jude
Anyone have any tips or resources you know of for those that face depression as a byproduct? Apparently it is quite common among heart surgery patients, though I don't recall anyone here mentioning it as a major side effect.
I did mention to him to talk with his doctor about an anti-depressant or whatever other advice the doctor might have.
Any help for one of our number that is facing a big challenge?
