I have had afib for about 10 years. I have recently gone on Tykosin and it is failing. I have run out of medications, all have failed over time. My doctor has suggested two alternatives; ablation and a pace maker and the Maze operation. I am leaning towards a solution to this and don't believe ablation and a pace maker is good long term. I travel frequently and internationally and this could create problems.
I want to stop the afib episodes and the affect they have on my life so I am leaning toward the Maze. I would like to understand recovery times and the effects of recovery and long term results. Also, in all honesty I am afraid of the thought of open heart surgery...it is a scary thing to me. Any help in understanding will be greatly appreciated....bob
