Bob I am one of the newer MAZERs. I am 5 weeks post maze as of Wednesday. I can honestly say and I may be and probably am at one extreme. I have not had to take any pain meds since leaving the hospital the monday after surgery. I took some Tylonal, but not for the surgery. My left hand has gone numb. I have only talked to the nurse about this. Val Vaughn has the same problem. Dr. Millar told him it was because of the tightness of the strap holding the elbow down. It will take time to get the feeling back. I feel like I am alive again. I do not know how long I had afib as I do not feel my heart change rythyem. Do know for sure that I was diagosed in December of 2000 in permanent afib. Looking back I was cronic probably for at least two years before that. Would I do it again. In a minute. Was not as bad as I anticipated as many others have also said. Don't know where you are from, but I had mine done in little old Boise, Idaho. Every one at the doctors office and the hospital was very kind, considerate and understanding. I would recommend them to anyone.
