Dan: My experience was different than yours in that I was unable (and perhaps unwilling)to exercise as I had pre-afib. Once I started taking the meds, my ability to be competitive or even keep up with my biking friends was impossible, my afib was still "exercise induced" much of the time, and the apprehension re: crashing while taking coumadin was always there...so I just quit exercising!

Now, post maze some 19 months, I have had no afib, but did have an aflutter bout last week, for which I was cardioverted. I have lost nearly 40 pounds in 5 months, played tennis (singles & doubles) every day for 2 weeks in April and June while on a couple weeks of vacation. I had not played tennis without afib for over 8 years, and while my serve is no longer my major weapon, I did just buy a new racquet which I am confident will help my game (having tried one my son bought). I have bought some new aero wheels for my road bike so I can get back to doing that and triathlons again perhaps next spring. The drugs did take a toll in several ways: lung function, depression, lost libido, etc. Most of these have returned to what I would guess might be better than normal for age 61.

Obviously Steve has returned to better than pre-afib athletic performance as have many others. Steve's post has been very motivating to me, and having recently exchanged some emails with Mike Ware, who is contemplating a Maze or ablation at the CC, I have decided that I would like to join him in the "Bike Florida" ride next spring (use any search engine to get more info). Complete details have not yet been posted, but should be shortly.

Are there any other cyclists out there who might like to have a "Maze" or "Former Afibbers" group in this, or any other ride? This might be a way to get some afib "cure" publicity, and perhaps might even be in conjunction with a Maze gettogether for others not so inclined to biking.

Please post or write if you are interested or have another interesting ride, triathlon, etc. we might do instead.
