I had the Maze done August 6,1998..I live in Alabama and I flew to Georgetown to meet Dr. Cox and have the surgery....

The last 4 years have been the best..I Thank God everyday for guiding Dr. Cox's hand during the surgery..

I have had a few spells with palpatations during the 4 years..Always scare me but go away after a few minutes or hours....One time it last a couple weeks.......I was to scared to go to the dcotr..Afraid A-Fib was back.Plus with having the surgery done out of state I feel alone here..No one to talk to ..

For past two weeks I have had very bad palpatations..I bite the bullet and went to primary doctor..He did EKG and of course they were gone by the time I saw the doctor...

I was very scared and angry..I was put on a Holter for 24 hours.... I got my results yesterday..Thank God it did not show any A-Fib but did show very frequent extra beats....

I swear these extra beats and the way it made me fell felt like A-Fib.......

At moment I'm on Atenolol 50 mg ..Doctor feels this will help.. The spells have stopped on there own before so don't know if I want to keep taking the atenolol but I see my old heart doctor on Oct 1st and I can talk to him about it...(He was the one that found out about Maze and sent me but then he had health problems and quit practicing for awhile but is back now)

Anyone out there have this problem and does it happen very often....My only regret in having the MAZE is not having anyone to talk to .......

2 weeks after the Maze I had a local doctor tell me not to throw away my heart medicine to fast because he had a patient go back into A-Fib 3 years after surgery...

Needless to say I did not go back to him...I did not need that kind of attitude while recoverying....I was already scared since I was on so much medicine and still having a-fib....

But after three months I did come off all heart medicines just like Terri said and have had 4 years of feeling great !!!!!!!

Now i'm on atenolol for the exra beats and hope to come back off this..Anyone out there have this problem sometimes let me know... Think doctor called it PVC's..And said nothing to worry about..But it still concerns me some...

any info would be apprieciated.......Pam Brown
