Hi every one. I had the Maze in September 2001 after suffering 5 years of Chronic Lone AF. The operation was sucessful. I continued using low doze of Beta bloker ( Metoprolol 100 mg) and coated asprin (325 mg) on a daily basis. The beta bloker helped lowering my heart beats to the 90s.
All went well until March of 2002. After a trip which caused sever exhaustion and stress, I develped sever chest infection. This was accompaned by rapid pulpatation and sever weakness. After the chest infection was cleared , I performed a holter monitor. It showed normal sinus rhythm with very rare PVC's and PAC's but one four beat run of non sustain SVT. I increased the Beta Bloker daily doze to 200 mg of Metoprolol, per my Dr. request, and forgot about this incedent. However, last week the same rapid palpitations , which last 3-5 minutes, occured for three days. usulally in the morning after breakfast while setting. This episode is accompaned by sever sweating and weakness.
Now I am worried about the Sustain SVT and its effect on the heart. Has any one experienced any thing like that? Can any medication help? What is the long term effect?
I wil perform another holter monitor soon. However, I am afraid that I will find nothing, because I feel normal after the three days of rapid palpatation. So, I will be back to my worries.
Any advise ?.
