Arlene

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I had been in junctional rhythm since the Maze last August, while my sinus node (which may have been malfunctioning for a long time while in a-fib) remained asleep. The theory in my case was to allow me to remain in junctional without a pacer to see if junctional would support my daily activities/lifestyle (which it did) and to allow time for the sinus node to become functioning again. I guess that is why I was surprised that just all of a sudden, and just a few weeks after a thorough cardiac exam, my heart rhythm became so complex and even uncomfortable and debilitating to warrant a pacer and medication. After this much time has passed (eleven months), it is not expected that the node will wake up any more.

I too am pleased that technology is available when it is needed and feel better now with the pacer. The troupblesome palpitations are very infrequent now. You have gone one step further in that I had not heard of an in-home machine to check coumadin levels! That's great.

I like your attitude about "don't knock the maze unless you have been in a-fib". My best to you!

Roger
