I had a valve replaced and a maze over 2 years ago. I started having the problems you were having 1 week after surgery and had to have a pacer installed. They told me that sometimes during the maze surgery, the sinus node goes to sleep. He also said that mine could have been misfunctioning for a long time. Anyway, to make a long story short, I feel great and as I was passing out when my heart rate got too slow, I absolutely love the pacer. I hope you don't have to take comedin. Because I have an artificial valve, I am on it for a lifetime. I am fortunate in that I was able to get a home machine to check my blood, but it still is a worry. However, I do feel that I've had a 2nd lease on life and am thankful for this technology. I also have run into doc's (EP's) who aren't sold on the Maze procedure, but my reply to them is that until you have been in a-fib, don't knock it.
