I scuba dove during my AF years with the blessing of my cardiologist who did his research on the subject. He was worried about blood bubbles until he found out it to be a non issue.
Hemoraging from what event? Why would you bleed more under water? Would the extra pressure be dangerous? Would diving at less depth solve the problem?
When I was worried about my blood thinner level, I lowered my coumadin dose temporarily (like before a ski trip). Don't take this as advice, but even in AF, I was not going to let it affect my life one iota more than it had to.
Check with your doctor again, or find another that won't place this kind of restriction on your life possibly uneccesarily. Although, maybe I was just lucky, I lived a full life in chronic AF. I haven't dove in the year since my maze, but I wouldn't think twice about going down now. Very few mazers take coumadin. Plus, my overall health has skyrocketed since the maze, so everything physical is so much more fun.
Best wishes on your decisions, Rob
