It is not just heart failure patients that beta blockers protect, it is all post MI patients. The risk reduction is quite significant, about 33%. It is so strong that it might be considered malpractice not to put patients on a beta blocker unless specifically contraindicated, same oes for a baby (81mg) aspirin, and ACE inhibitor ( drug with name ending in -pril) and an HMG Co A reductase inhibitor (-statin) to lower cholesterol.
