Maze/ fluid in lungs?

I left Cleveland yesterday after my husband had the Maze on Thursday. I had every intention on picking him up today. I'm now told that he has fluid on his lungs and they may have to operate again. I was told by the doctor to return as soon as possible. Can anyone explain this better? Is there an extreme danger?
