Diane,

My sister and I had surgery on two consecutive days - she ended up with fluid accumulating in the pericardium after surgery to the point that they had to go back in and cut a pericardial window to let the fluid drain. She did fine after that. I experienced pericarditis and some pleural efusion, but I understand that it is normal for open heart patients to experience this.
