Henry: I have had experience with Tikosyn. I was put on it and broke through it within 3 days. The drug also has very serious side effects. In fact I received extensive education in the hospital about watching for signs of ventricular fibrillation, which as you know causes death within a few minutes after the onset unless the ventricle is "defibrillated" by electric counter-shock. I was put on it as a last resort. Tikosyn is also contra-indicated in patients who are on a variety of drugs (too lengthy to mention in this e-mail). In fact, I had to take a list of them (which was about a page long)to my pharmacist and have him enter them into the computer as medication allergies while I was taking Tikosyn. Tikosyn is also not available in drug stores. You have to order it through the mail, and you only get a one month supply at a time, so you are constantly having to reorder it. I was actually glad that it did not work for me, as it was a pain to deal with all the contra-indications and ordering procedure. I would not take it again ever!

I would again encourage anyone who has been on multiple drugs for AF for long periods of time, to stop the madness and get informed about the maze. I hope this enlightens anyone considering Tikosyn. As a matter of fact, when I went to my pharmacist to give him the list of drugs that I could not take while on Tikosyn, he indicated to me that he wondered how long it would be before the FDA took it off the market.

I was put on Tikosyn last July, and at that time very few cardiologists were even aware of it, let alone know about its severe side effects. In fact when I went into the ER after going into A fib on it, the ER doctor didn't even know what it was. Perhaps the medical community is more enlightened about it now, but I would not chance it.
