Thanks to everyone for your replies. Unlike many people with this disorder, I have done well on the first medication prescribed for me; I don't feel debilitated in any significant way despite being in chronic afib, and I have great respect for my cardiologist. And so far (knock on wood) my heart function has actually improved from what it was a couple of years ago. So, except for the increased risk of stroke, or Coumadin complications, I do feel pretty comfortable continuing as I am for now. But as I said above, I would like to resolve the problem before I hit, say, 60. Like many whose stories I've read here, the prospect of the surgery scares me. I'd sure like to see some of this research pay off with a less invasive procedure with a sterling track record. But I'm willing to risk the MAZE, and would go tomorrow if my next echocardiogram showed any deterioration in my heart function. In the meantime, it's heartening to know there is a bunch of people here who know the ropes well. I will continue to draw on your expertise. Thanks.
