Frank, don't worry about the questions. If it is a question you don't know, then it should be asked.
You will probably get more feed back on this, but as far as the maze procedure is concerned, I don't think it makes any difference if you are chronic, or if you are, how long you have been chronic. The maze procedure establishes a set pattern of scar tissue on the atria of the heart to obstruct the errant impulses from establishing a fibrillation pattern. The impulses will not cross the scar tissue. They leave the proper pathway for the impulse to travel to the AV node and on to the ventricles without setting up a fibrillation pattern.
I was not in chronic AF, but was very near it. I had also fought AF most all my life and was cured at the age of 64, and am now 68. I have been AF and medication free for 45 months.
