Jerry: If you will look back to Jack's post of 1/02/02, entitled "Another piece to the puzzle", it contains an email answer to a question I asked as to how the microwave ablation/maze procedure is performed.

I think many people think the Cox maze procedure is either open chest or minimally invasive, and that all ablations are done with a catheter, and therefore must be the easy way.
I BELIEVE that the procedure described in the email I forwarded to Jack is what is happening with Dr. Natalie and Dr. Gillinov at the CC. Dr. McCarthy alluded to these new techniques of creating the "lines" in his post (through Ed Wehan) last month.
Perhaps you should ask the person who wrote to you, just HOW they do the procedure. I think you may find that these are new ways to lessen the time on the heart/lung machine, and perhaps eliminate it, but one may still have their chest opened. (Believe me, and the rest of us, the THINKING about that part of the procedure is FAR worse than the actual experience).
