Non cable/DSL users - How is the loading time?

We are getting much more traffic due to being listed in more search engines. I have cable, so it is very quick to load the page, but I assume most users are using 56k modems.
There are now almost 1500 messages and it is taking longer to load. How long does it take for you? There are things I can do to speed it up if it is getting too slow.
