I have been fascinated to read about people who have suffered from the same symptoms and frustrations of A-fib as I have for the past 15 years. I finally had my Maze August 13, 2001, after being hospitalized four times in one month with heart rates up to 219. My surgeon was Deepak Gangahar, M.D. from the Nebraska Heart Institute, Lincoln, NE. My surgery was done at BryanLGH Medical Center. I had one episode of A-fib which took me to the ER once again, but was easily converted with Lopressor, and my heart rate was only in the 140s. My EP doc said,"not to worry - give it six months." I have found I have good days and bad days as far as my exercise tolerance is concerned, but only brief bursts of rapid heart rates (less than 10 - 15 seconds) and those have now disappeared. I did have the Maze-3 (NOT minimally invasive) surgery, so I am hopeful I will be cured. Reading about all of your experiences with this completely frustrating condition has given me hope in the knowledge that others have had success with the Maze.
