Three weeks Post Maze.
For the last three weeks I have believed myself to be in NSR at 70 bpm with occasional periods of 120 bpm. But today, I went to my local cardiologist for the first checkup since the surgery. He claims that I am in Atrial Flutter at 70 bpm, not NSR. He cannot see a "P" wave. He believes that the atria are contracting at a rate of 2 or 3 times the 70 bpm. I don't think he has ever dealt with a Maze patient before. He frankly admitted that he did not know what procedure to follow. He did insist that because of the Atrial Flutter, that I switch immediately from Enteric Coated Aspirin to Coumadin. We agreed to continue with the other meds prescribed by CC. In a month he is going to have me wear a Halter monitor. I feel this visit was a downer for me.Is there a better way to tell if the atria are fluttering besides looking for a "P" wave. In my EKG, the "P" is very hard to see.
I go for a 25 minute walk every day. I notice that if there is an upgrade, it is very exhausting to walk up it.
I still nap quite a bit. I find that I have been losing weight every day. In order to stop the weight loss I have to force myself to overeat.
I remain hopeful that as the heart heals, I will be in NSR and will be able to get off the meds.
Good luck and good health to everyone.
