Maze for Mom

Hello everyone, I just want all of you to know what a wonderful site this is, and helpful all of the postings have been. I am a nurse, and I can't tell you how much I have learned from all of you. Please help and give me some advice. My mom is 79 years old, but a very, very young 79 who stays busy all day long. She has been in atrial fib. for about 2 years now, and in the last few weeks we found out she has a "leaky" mitral valve. We live in Alabama , and there is a physician at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham by the name of Dr. David McGiffin who does the Maze. Has anyone heard of him?
Since she will be having a valve repair and the Maze, along with her age, I have to be absolutely sure that she has the best surgeon and the best team available.
Please help. Thanks so much
