Sheena:
I am a 56 year old female, and had my maze at the CC on 8/8/00. I can surely relate to your fears and concerns...but, at the risk of sounding flip, I must add that (at least in my case) they were worse than the actual experience. I was hospitalized for 12 days due to the fact that I became irregular a couple of days post-op, and they had a hard time getting me under control. I believe that this was due to the fact that they went too heavy on the meds. In any event, I have been a-fib free since discharge. There were frustrating days and experiences, and moments of discouragement...I do recall waking up with the 'tube'..not pleasant, but fleeting in retrospect. I don't recall stairs being a problem at home, and have no recollection of any real pain..discomfort is probably a better description. I must comment that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at the CC!! I am an advocate of supplements, and I believe that they helped in my recovery. Please feel free to write if you would like more details.
