Henry, I had very little depression from the fact that I was bothered by AF. I had AF from my teen years all the way until 64, and as it increased in seriousness, I guess I adjusted along with it.
I didn't know the real cause of it at the time, but I did have some extreme deep depression from a side effect of one of my AF medications. I lived through about 7 years, and 5 of those 7 were severe abdominal and back pain. No one correctly diagnosed the cause of the pain, so I could get very little help or hope for things to get any better. I accidently discovered the cause of the pain, and stopped the medication (Lanoxin), and have been pain free for the last 9 years. No one in the medical field believes that Lanoxin caused my pain, but the pain started just after I started taking lanoxin, and stopped with in 10 days of discontinuing it.
When I finally decided on the Maze procedure, I was in a very good state of mind. I looked at the maze only as a cure for my AF, and that was the outcome. For the last 41 months I have enjoyed a life of NSR, and no medications for AF.
If your life style is largely controlled by the AF, it would be good to get all the facts of the Maze, or other possible cures. You will probably get mostly Maze procedure information here, as that is what most of the members here have had, and mostly all with good final results.
